Gaggia Coffee Mocktails: Moonlight Milk
Are you ready for a space trip?
To celebrate the launch of the new Cadorna and Magenta Prestige OVER ICE Moonlight Grey, we have decided to prepare a new and surprising mocktail.
Taking inspiration from the famous ayurvedic Moon Milk, we have created the Moonlight milk, in collaboration with Christian Tirro and Vanessa Ferrini, from Accademia Italiana Baristi (Italian Academy of Baristas).
What makes this ancient drink so special is the combination of natural beneficial and energizing ingredients for both mind and spirit. It features spices such as ginger, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric, which is a powerful antioxidant, cinnamon and cardamom, good for the digestive and immune systems. This recipe includes also two superfoods: ashwagandha, an Indian plant that can help in relieving stress and anxiety, and charcoal, known for its digestive and draining effect.

To the original recipe, we added an over ice coffee, made with the new Gaggia Cadorna OVER ICE.
To garnish our Moonlight Milk, we have thought to add edible sponges that could recall lunar rocks, and sugar discs as little glass moons.
To make this spicy mocktail at home, here you can find the ingredients and the recipe.
This version is for everybody: vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free.
Ingredients (for 1 drink)
– 1 over ice coffee (prepared with Gaggia Cadorna or Magenta Prestige OVER ICE)
– 250-300 ml oat milk
– 1 tsp maple syrup
– 1 tsp coconut oil
– 1 tsp Ashwagandha root powder
– ½ tsp ground cardamom
– 1 big Medjool date
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon
– ½ tsp ground turmeric
– ½ tsp ground ginger
– 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
– 2 black peppercorns
– 1 tsp charcoal
To garnish
– Lunar rocks – Edible sponges
– Sugar moons – Glucose syrup discs
How to make it
1- Prepare the spicy milk: in a nonstick pan, pour oat milk and add all the spices: turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, black peppercorn and the ground nutmeg together with the Ashwagandha root powder. Stir.
2 – Sweeten and cook: Add a pitted and chopped date, 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, and bring it the boil while stirring continuously. Cook on a low-medium heat for about 5-6 minutes, then add the maple syrup and keep on stirring.
3 – Filtrate and color: filter the spicy milk with a strainer to remove the remaining spices and medjool date pieces. When the milk is still warm, dissolve a teaspoon of charcoal in it. Let it rest.
4 – Prepare the over ice coffee: now prepare your OVER ICE coffee. In a tall glass, add a few ice cubes. Brew your over ice coffee over them, freshly made with your Gaggia Cadorna or Magenta Prestige OVER ICE.
5 – Assembly: Shake the milk you’ve prepared before, and strain it, then pour it in the glass. The contrast between dark coffee and spicy milk will create a magnificent stratification effect!
6 – Garnish: time to garnish your Moonlight Milk mocktail!
Add an edible black sponge and a glucose syrup moon to decorate your drink before finally enjoying it.
And here we are: our Moonlight Milk is ready for taste!
